Shelter Movers offers free moving and storage services to survivors of gender-based violence. In teams of 2 to 7 volunteers, the movers and drivers are responsible for transporting objects and helping with the move. We provide insurance, gas and rental vehicles (car, van or truck). Note that our customers are present during the moves and may be accompanied by their children and/or animals.

Tâches

- Collect the rental vehicle (for drivers only).
- Meet the team at an agreed time and place.
- Transport the goods to a predetermined location.
- Maintain communication with movers and other volunteers.
- Respect client confidentiality.
- Be aware of the importance of empathy during interactions with customers.
- Where applicable, work with private security services and police services.

Compétences recherchées

- Passion for Shelter Movers’ mission of supporting women, their children and other gender-based survivors of violence fleeing violence and abuse
- Tact, discretion, high level of maturity and good judgement
- Ability to protect clients’ confidentiality and to provide them with trauma-informed service
- Awareness of appropriate boundaries, compassion fatigue, and self-care
- Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- No previous education is required
- A long-term interest in the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Violence Against Women (VAW) sectors -an asset
- Ability to speak additional languages -an asset

Exigences (VAJ, Voiture, formation de base) :

- Be 18 years and older.
- For drivers: Be 21 years old and hold a class 5 license (or equivalent if outside QC).
- Be able to lift at least 20 pounds. Be able to lift boxes and furniture with the help of other movers.
- Be a reliable person. Ability to remain calm in potentially stressful situations. Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes.

Horaire du poste bénévole :

Most moves last on average 3-5 hours. We provide a calendar and send Call to Action emails, so you can register for moves depending on your availability. At least 1 move per month is encouraged.
